VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments

Who is this qualification for?

The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments is an advanced qualification that has been specifically designed for beauty therapists and medical professionals.

This qualification is based on beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS). This qualification is approved and supported by the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA), the standard setting body for hair, beauty, nails and spa qualifications.

What does this course cover?

The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments is a vocationally related qualification and is focused on reducing hair growth and photo rejuvenation of the skin using intense pulse light and laser treatments. This qualification requires you to develop skills to carry out IPL and laser treatments.

You will develop your knowledge and practical skills over a course of 7 weeks.

Theoretical learning can be studied at your own pace via our online learning platform. You will complete the essential theory learning over 2 weeks and then attend our Aesthetics Academy in Newry for your practical learning and portfolio building. Classes in our academy are 1 day per week for 5 weeks.

You will complete 4 assignments for the main units in this qualification:

• Management of health, safety and security in the salon
• Client care and communication in beauty- related industries
• Laser and light treatments for hair removal
• Laser and light treatments for skin rejuvenation

Practical Training

Practical training will take place at our Aesthetics Academy in Newry.

You will work with one of our two IPL machines, Venus Versa or BTL Exilite, which have handpieces or filters of different wavelengths, as well as contact cooling, to treat a range of Fitzpatrick skin types for hair removal and skin rejuvenation. 

You will be able to treat vascular lesions, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles. You will learn how to complete stack mode (or single) shots and in-motion with IPL. You will also be working with the Lumenis Lightsheer Diode Laser specifically treating hair removal.

We will place a particular emphasis on client care, safety and consultation.

Assessments

Your assessor will assess you in the different treatments for hair removal and skin rejuvenation, and our IQA (Internal Quality Assurer) will be present, on occasion.

The EQA visits us twice a year for VTCT quality assurance. They will look through your portfolio of treatments and assignments that have been assessed. We will inform you if an EQA visit is arranged during your course. The EQA will observe you completing a skin rejuvenation treatment and hair removal treatment. The EQA is visiting us on Monday 16th December, so will not be due another visit until late Spring/early Summer 2025.

Course Duration

This course involves 2 weeks of completing theory online via our platform at your own pace

5 weeks (1 day per week) of practical classes and assessments

What will I Receive When I Pass This Course?

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement from the examination board, VTCT. This qualification is regulated by OFQUAL, fully recognised and fully insurable.

You will also receive a Core of Knowledge Certificate from LaserSafe.

Course Fee

The course fee is £1,400. You can pay a deposit of £400 to secure your place followed by 2 payments of £500 over the duration of the course.

Pre-Requisites

We recommend that learners have achieved a minimum of Level 2 Award in Facial Skincare and Massage or equivalent and Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology. Contact the Academy to discuss pre-requisites.
